About the Event

This Friday, Umama, and so she sows will move to her new home for an almost 3 month residency on the green of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Sitting at the intersection of Leigh and St. Peters Streets in Jackson Ward, Umama connects three of RIchmond’s cultural institutions in a spiral of regenerating power!

Positioned between ART 180, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia, Umama, and so she sows honors each space as a home to history, movement building practices, knowledge sharing, and creative visioning.

We’ll be unveiling the monument this Friday, from 4-5 p.m. with leadership from Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia, and ART 180 along with the artists who helmed its creation Nastassja Swift and Xolani Sivunda.

So join us this Friday to welcome Umama to her new digs!
