Want to know more about our kids?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

We’re putting up more about our kids and programs every weeks, but there are already some places on the blog where you can learn more about them. Check out the Blog Page titled “Who are the youth ART 180 works with?“. You can also search for information about the programs by clicking on the “Progams” category to the right.

Check back everyweek for new stuff about ART 180 and the children we serve.

What the kids are saying…

“When I make art I’m sometimes happy, sometimes sad. When I’m upset at people I just do anything with my artwork, but it’s still important to me. And when I’m not mad, I just love to paint. It’s the thing I really, really, really love about art.” – Cherish

While the karma theme suggests exotic lands, this event champions homegrown talent and community generosity.

ART KARMA IS ONE MONTH AWAY!

Put Art Karma on your calendar for December 3, 2009. Come help us keep programs going and growing, while getting some good karma of your own at Art Karma, ART 180’s annual fundraiser. We’ve got a silent auction with donations from local businesses and the proceeds benefit the children that ART 180 serves.

Admission is $25 at the door, or 2 for $40. Get your tickets through the ART 180 website (here) early and save $5.

See you there!

Renmark Consignment Shop

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

For those of you who love a good consignment shop, check out Renmark Consignment Shop, which is now donating a portion of its proceeds to ART 180.

Consignment is way of recycling things that are still in good condition, but you just don’t have room for or a need for. Purchasing gently cared for items from Renmark is environmentally friendly and a benefit to the Richmond community. It saves new materials from being used, like wood for a desk, and the money you spend goes to support Richmond neighborhoods since it is locally owned and operated.

Last semester the St. Andrew’s kids learned how recycled materials can be turned into great artwork and discovered that just because something is previously used doesn’t mean that it isn’t beautiful. They created sculptures out of items that are normally tossed out like old shoe boxes, small planks of wood, and scrap pieces of cloth and yarn.

Take a cue from the kids: get into recycled treasures and find your own at Renmark Consignment Shop. Be sure you say “Hi!” to Eapoe and Scamper when you stop in!

Renmark Consignment Shop is located in Church Hill at 7 North 25th Street.

Thanks to Renmark Consignment for their generosity!
